Looking at a meme, through a leaning lens.

A cartoon brain excitedly points at a meme on a smartphone with a pizza and character face. Text: "LEARNING FROM A MEME."

A deep-but-funny dive into how humour boosts memory and creativity.

Sometimes we forget what the exam was about, but clearly remember the meme you saw two weeks back about that explained the pythagoras theorem. Memes are basically the new study notes, they’re short and relatable. They stick in your brain (probably forever), because our minds love humor and simplicity that is easy. Scientists agree too. Laughter releases dopamine, which improves motivation and memory. The same memes that make us laugh until we can’t breathe also somehow manage to teach us complex ideas faster than a 90-slide PowerPoint ever could.

So technically… that meme about procrastination is helping your cognitive performance. Who knew scrolling could be self-improvement?

And here’s the wild part: memes make learning social. You share them, remix them, comment on them, and in the process, you’re reinforcing knowledge. Whether it’s a meme about math anxiety, student life, or AI taking over, it builds connection. Learning becomes less about memorizing and more about relating. Therefore it can be said half of what we “learn” these days doesn’t come from the classroom but online.

So yes, maybe memes can’t replace a professor (yet), but they’re definitely the internet’s way of sneaking education into entertainment. It’s learning that doesn’t feel like learning. So next time someone says you’re wasting time online, just smile and say: “I’m not scrolling memes ….and learning”.
